Priest
Spy, San Francisco | Lighting & Compositing
Fall of 2010 brought me into Spy, a long standing post production facility in San Francisco that had just bought out the Orphanage and were re-assembling the key personnel and pipeline. Their first major film was Priest, based on a popular Korean comic book set in a zombie Buddhist western hellscape... need I say more? Jonathon Rothbart as VFX sup kept things real, while Mike Janov and Steve Deluca led as exemplary department supervisors and made sure no one took anything too seriously. My original focus was to be lighting, however as most the shots were predominantly outside and fairly easy to run from a template, I became more valuable as a compositor, as well as working on one off shots that required a multi skilled approach. I also stayed on post delivery with a few other people to help dimensionalize all the comps, which sounds awful, and it was at times but really was an eye opener to see how senior ILM compers were attacking the shots. I really learned quite a bit from this show, definitely sharpened my comp skills.
